Water Gardens

Regardless of our differences, we are universally attracted to water. Be it moving or still, water delights the senses, invites play and engages the intellect. Water gardens provide a habitat for animal life, and a showcase for beautiful water plants. A well placed water garden is a magnet throughout the seasons, offering us new perspective with it's reflection of the sky. Water bubbles, gurgles, froths and tumbles; a lively companion to every garden.

What do you need for a successful water garden? A good plan that places a pond with a minimum of 6 hours of sun daily, away from tree roots and low areas in the landscape that tend to collect water. Shady ponds make excellent fish ponds, but water lilies, lotus and other flowering plants will not thrive under large trees, deprived of sunlight. You will want a low maintenance filter system and high quality building materials.

Gateway Garden Center offers you years of water gardening experience. We are happy to share with you the essential elements to create a low maintenance, captivating water garden. We select not only the most innovative systems in the industry, but the tried and true pond supplies as well. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Today's advanced pond hobbyists, fish breeders, and water garden enthusiasts know the importance of water quality. However, new hobbyists do not fully understand this. Water coming from the tap is often the main reason for fish losses and disease problems. Common disinfectants in tap water, such as chlorine and chloramines are highly toxic to pond life. Other chemicals often used in water treatment include aluminum sulfate, copper salts, lime, phosphate, and silicate. Tap water can also contain heavy metals that can harm both fish and plants. Harmful substances can also enter tap water supplies unintentionally, as a result of human activities and natural processes.
