Plants like Echinacea and native grasses that add gorgeous color and texture to the garden are an important food source for birds in the later months. Also combining plants that flower in spring like Amsonia and fall: Stockesia, Vernonia, and Solidagio will attract butterflies and other pollinators to your garden year round.  This year consider planting natives alongside other goregous perennials and annuals.
