Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips

Cut down canes in late winter-early spring. Keep area around base of canes mulched to keep moisture in and weeds out. Use plumes and canes in dried winter arrangements. Wonderful pool-pond side planting. Can be invasive if planted around a natural pond-lake. Containement can be handled by cutting rhizomes around the base of the planting.

Interesting Notes

Fall plumes are tinged red-pink to light pink. During cool weather in spring and in fall, new foliage emerges with white variegation.
